WMS announces Joe Thiessen as Superintendent/CEO effective January 2027
Joe currently serves as Superintendent/CEO of Hanover School Division, where he works closely with staff, families, trustees, and community partners to support student success and foster a culture of continuous growth and excellence. Joe is guided by his faith and a deep belief in the power of schools to change lives and strengthen communities. Throughout his career as a teacher, principal, and divisional leader, he has been passionate about creating learning environments where students feel valued, staff feel supported, and families feel connected and engaged in their children's education. His leadership is grounded in relationships, collaboration, and a commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and reach their potential.
Joe holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration and a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education from the University of Manitoba, as well as a Bachelor of Education degree from Brandon University. While he values lifelong learning and professional growth, he considers the relationships built throughout his career and the successes of students and colleagues to be among his greatest rewards. Joe served as Principal of Mitchell Elementary School for 20 years, where he developed a strong reputation for building positive school cultures and meaningful connections with students, staff, and families. Earlier in his career, he taught at Niverville Collegiate Institute, Blumenort School, and Woodlawn School, gaining experience across early, middle, and senior years education.
Joe is excited for the opportunity to join the WMS community, listen to their stories, learn from their experiences, and work together to support the success and well-being of every student. He values relationship-based leadership, community engagement, and service, recognizing that everyone—students, educators, support staff, families, trustees, and community members—plays an important role in helping young people flourish. He is committed to fostering environments where individuals experience a strong sense of belonging, purpose, and opportunity.
"I love this school because we get the chance to be open about our faith. We don't have to be afraid to ask questions. We are one big happy family."
